Scott Peck in his book The Road Less Traveled talks about “Serendipity” moments of Grace - moments of blessing that come into our lives – unexpected and that deepen who we are and affirm a loving Heavenly Father who cares about the details of our life.
So I am sitting in Nordstroms on the phone sharing and doing what I call Quick Coaching a dear friend, consultant and fellow coach through some issues they are facing. An older woman sits on the chair across from me and I don’t notice her particularly except she is there, until I see her nod at something I just shared with my friend- and she looks at me with an affirming smile. She leaves, I finish my call.
I feel someone gently touch my arm, the woman returned and said to me, “I don’t know who you were talking to but I hope they know how wise you are and how great a friend they have”. And then she said, “I shouldn’t have been listening, but I needed to hear what you said. You have encouraged my heart – I needed to hear your wisdom too. Thank you.”
I mumbled some kind of thank you being caught off guard and smiled as she patted my arm again and calmly walked away. I sat there thanking God for just a Serendipity grace moment.
May God bring His grace to youjust now in a moment when you just wouldn’t expect it. As I ask and tell my students, are you looking for grace? Immanuel happens often when we least expect it.
